چکیده
OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical outcome between mineral trioxide aggregate apical plug and mineral trioxide monoblock technique of endodontic apexification procedure of non vital permanent incisors with open apexes. STUDY DESIGN: Clinical in vivo Cross sectional comparative study PLACE AND DURATION: Endodontic department/College of Dentistry Ziauddin University, Karachi. Study duration was from January 2010 to January 2013. METHODOLOGY: Total fifty patients of male or female visited Endodontic department with non vital permanent maxillary incisors with open apexes were selected. The selected teeth were divided into 2 groups by simple random method. Group A was treated with MTA apical plugtechnique and the group B was treated with MTA monoblock technique. The assessment of clinical outcome was carried out at12 and 24 month follow-up appointments. The presence of signs and symptoms with treated cases were considered as clinical failure, while treated cases without symptoms were considered as clinical successful cases. The treated cases were also checked radiographically according to the published criteria of evaluation and categorized as successful, uncertain outcome and failure cases. The recorded data were analyzed by using the statistical software. RESULTS: The results of the study showed clinical success in both group and radiographic success was found to be 68% and 76% in MTA apical plug group and 84% and 92 % in MTA monoblock group at 12 and 24 months intervals. CONCLUSION: This study have showed no significant difference in clinical outcome of MTA apical plug and mineral trioxide monoblock technique for endodontic apexification procedure of non vital permanent incisors with open apexes.

A clinical evaluation of mineral trioxide aggregate for root-end closure of non-vital immature permanent incisors in children-a pilot study.
The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) as an apexification material when used in non-vital immature permanent incisors in children. Fifteen children with a mean age of 11.7 years and 17 non-vital permanent incisors were ajudged suitable for inclusion. Standard endodontic procedures were followed and an apical plug of 3-4 mm was crea...
متن کاملMineral Trioxide Aggregate as an Apical Plug in Endodontic Management of Non-Vital Permanent Teeth with Open Apex: A Case Report
Apexification is a widely used technique to manage immature permanent teeth and can be performed either using calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) or mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). This paper illustrates a case report of a unsuccessful apexification with Ca (OH)2 of amaxillary incisor that was then treated by an apical barrier made of MTA.
متن کاملApexification in Non-Vital Teeth with Immature Roots: Report of Two Cases
Apexification is a method of inducing apical closure for non-vital immature permanent teeth. During this treatment a mineralized barrier is induced [with long term calcium hydroxide (CH) treatment]; or artificially created [with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) plug]. This article describes two cases of apexification in immature necrotic teeth treated with these two different techniques. After ...
متن کاملManagement of immature non - vital tooth with single visit MTA apexification : A case report
Management of fracture dimmature teeth presents a special challenge to dentists. Apexification, Apexogenosis or Regeneration are the only options for conserving such tooth. Traditional apexification with calcium hydroxide is associated with certain difficulties, like longer treatment time, risk of tooth fracture and incomplete calcification of apical bridge. Treatment outcome of regenerations a...
متن کاملApexification with white MTA in an immature permanent tooth with dens invaginatus
Dens invaginatus, also known as “dens in dente”, is a developmental dental anomaly resulting in an invagination of the enamel organ into the dental papilla. These cases present technical difficulties to the root canal treatment. Apexification using an apical plug of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has been indicated as an alternative to long-term intracanal use of calcium hydroxide in immature...
